Nicaragua Beach

May 24, 2012

Finally! I took a trip to the beach in Nicaragua which I have been anxious to do.  Two new friends (but long time residents in Granada) asked me to accompany them for a weekend at a condominium on the Pacific. The development is called Hacienda Iguana and it is right on the ocean.

The Pacific here in Nicaragua is a surfer’s paradise.  We are right on the sand and there are waves most of the day.  Lots of surfers here as the surf is consistent, although not the big waves I hear are in Costa Rica. Still you can surf all day.  Not me, I walked in the ocean and along the natural white sand beach, but did not go out to swim as it was too rough.  I did sit by the pool or on the balcony to enjoy the beautiful view and a beverage.

There are a number of these developments along the coast of Nicaragua. Many of them are similar to gated communities and include amenities such as a pool, golf course, stables, club house, security guards etc.  The facilities range from condos to casitas (small house) to large homes. Some of the developments offer management services and will rent your place while you are not there.

We drove around the area as one of the women owns property nearby.  She is on a hill and you can see the ocean and beautiful valley from her land. Access to the entire beach area is on a packed dirt road. We took 45 minutes to go about ten miles. It was a good road and since rainy season is just starting we had no problems.
